description abstractA relatively simple experimental procedure for establishing the anisotropic yield characteristics of commercially available drawn metal tubes is described. Hill’s [4] extension of the Von Mises yield criterion to anisotropic yielding is used to describe the anisotropy present. Results from commercially available stainless steel are presented where the anisotropy is characterized by differences between the yield stresses in the circumferential and axial directions.
