description abstractA new theory was developed for the fluid-filled semi-infinite tube model subjected to pressure impulse. The new model takes into account the shear and flexural waves of the elastic tube. The tube displacement field is axisymmetric. Axial deformations are based on the uniform extensional symmetric mode, and antisymmetric flexural mode along the tube thickness. Radial deformation is based on the uniform symmetric mode about the tube axis. Walker-Phillips’ theory can be recovered as a special, limiting case.
