description abstractEmpirical general cutting-tool temperature-predicting equations in terms of speed, feed, and depth of cut are developed by response-surface methodology. The practicability of the first-order model has been shown by confirmatory tests. The importance of the second-order model, particularly at a high-temperature range, is also discussed.
