description abstractThe stiffness of taperd-bore ring seals was measured with air as the sealed fluid. Static stiffness agreed fairly well with results of a previous analysis. Cross-coupled stiffness due to shaft rotation was much less than predicted. Part of the disparity may be due to simplifying assumptions in the analysis; however, these do not appear to account for the entire difference observed.
