description abstractA cam driving a single lumped mass through a massless, elastic, slider-crank follower linkage is considered. A technique is developed for synthesizing the cam profile to produce a desired output motion at a given design speed. The procedure takes the elasticity and changing geometry of the linkage into account. Analysis equations are also derived to study the output motion at various speeds. The equation of motion for the output link is found to be a Hill equation whose periodicity depends on the changing geometry of the mechanism.
