description abstractThe development of a one-dimensional finite strain elasto-plastic shell model appropriate for use in modelling straight drawbeads is outlined. Numerical results obtained using a finite element technique are shown for practical bead designs. The sheet deformation is divided into two phases: that when the binder locks the sheet metal to form the bead, and that when the punch advances to form the panel, pulling the sheet and (possibly) drawing material through the bead. The effects of friction coefficient, bead geometry, and material properties are investigated, resulting in strain distribution diagrams and force-displacement curves for several bead designs.
