description abstractInelastic analysis of a prototypic liquid metal fast breeder reactor (LMFBR) piping system is generally performed without explicit consideration of time-dependent seismic loading. This paper presents an approximate procedure to simulate dynamic seismic loading as an equivalent static load for inelastic analysis. This procedure utilizes the results of the available linear seismic response spectrum analysis to calculate external (statically equivalent) loads. These statically equivalent loads are selected such that they produce internal forces and moments comparable to those predicted by the linear response spectrum analysis.
