description abstractAn application of a model reference adaptive control algorithm to the combustion control of a 300 MW power unit boiler is presented. The primary process variable to control under this scheme is the main steam pressure. The objective of this implementation is the reduction of steam pressure sensitivity to load variation. A comparison between the plant behavior with classical PID combustion control and the adaptive algorithm shows than the latter scheme produces a smoother response.
