Abstract: Previous studies have led to the determination of the forces of attachment of dust to cotton and of the forces required to remove such dust from cotton. Building on the results of the previous research, a theoretical model has been developed for predicting the intensity of a sonic or ultrasonic field that would be required to remove dust from cotton. The model takes into accout displacement amplitudes, velocities, and accelerations as functions of frequencies and intensities of sonic energy and the anticipated effects on coupling and absorption in the cotton. The theory is compared with experiment.
