| description abstract | We analyze a model of a freight car using asymptotic methods and obtain a formula for the critical speed that is valid over a wide range of warp stiffnesses. We also discuss corrections to this formula that are engendered by the other parameters that influence the motion. The results of the analysis are compared with numerical solutions of the model in order to assess their accuracy. | |
