    Cylindrical Flank Twist Drill Points

Abstract: The mathematical models of twist drills usually require the cutting edge of the drill to be straight. This requirement restricts the clearance angle near the chisel edge to undesirably small values. By rotating the drill about its own axis before sharpening 5 to 20 deg the clearance angle distribution versus drill radius can be improved at the relatively small penalty of having a slightly curved cutting edge.
