Abstract: A theory is developed for predicting the limiting transmission loss of sound through pipe wall. The approach is general to allow an evaluation of the effects of the internal and external fluids as well as the basic physical characteristics of the cylinder. The effects of internal static pressure and the presence of a uniforn flow are also discussed. Results of an experimental program are presented which verify the theory for standard commercial pipes.
