description abstractThe Method of Inequalities is used to design controllers for the regulation of net thrust level, total airflow and inlet temperature of an F100 turbofan engine. Two models of the plant are considered, having orders 24 and 5, respectively, and simple controllers are designed for each model. As expected, the 24th order model is more difficult to control than the simplified 5th order model. In fact, it is found that the simplified model can give misleading results. Several useful features of the method of inequalities are illustrated by this appliction.
