Abstract: A unique method of drafting textile fibers makes use of a discontinuously surfaced or segmental drafting roll. In segmental drafting, more complete force relaxation occurs between each maximum buildup of force, and an intermittent strand attenuation occurs. This action minimizes the mean drafting force. The technique described is an improvement over conventional drafting because it uses only two drafting zones instead of three or four to produce similar or equal quality sliver.
