Abstract: Laboratory collapse tests and data available in literature have been used to assess the effect of such manufacturing parameters as slack quenching, rotary, and gag straightening on the collapse performance of oil-well casings. The detrimental effect of slack quenching and residual stresses due to slack quenching and straightening is established. The use of hardness testing and slit-ring tests as quality control methods for monitoring these parameters is discussed, and a new method of collapse testing is proposed.
