Abstract: A circular saw blade subjected to a concentrated radial in-plane load and initial tensioning stresses is theoretically investigated by energy methods. The buckling and vibrational properties of the blade are determined for various amounts of initial stress and extensive nondimensional results are presented. An optimum tensioning configuration for improving both the buckling and vibrational properties of the blade is proposed. The procedure is repeated for nine different combinations of blade thickness and clamping ratio.
