    Abstract: A new analytical method is presented, allowing direct, easy and accurate computation of the nonlinear waterlevel oscillations occurring in a simple surge tank under instantaneous load rejection. The method yields several design equations and is also applicable in the case of instantaneous load demand and to other types of surge tanks.
