Abstract: General solutions are obtained for the natural frequency and deflection of hardening vibration isolators that fall into the “tangent elasticity” class of nonlinearity for the case of small harmonic motions about the static equilibrium position. A procedure is developed for the minimization of the natural frequency and the determination of certain properties of an isolator for which a load-deflection curve is available. This procedure is applied to the design of conical compression springs as well as rubber compression isolators.
