Community Partnering in Accelerated Construction Program

Abstract: Public agencies are increasingly recognizing the value of project information planning in construction programs, but little research examines the most effective components to include in these plans. The present paper examines two real‐world construction projects that were recently completed in Clark County, Nevada, describes the project information and community partnering efforts that were undertaken in these projects, and evaluates these components in terms of the effectiveness of each individual component. Eight in‐depth interviews were conducted with key participants, and postcard surveys were performed among a larger project sample. It was found that official or unofficial community leaders are a significant, yet often underused, resource and that, within a project, distinct subgroups may exist that require specific attention. A comparison of survey results between the two cases also strongly suggests that the level of citizen satisfaction can be shifted noticeably by the sheer quantity of information flow taking place.
