Engineers as Managers and Some Do's and Don't's

Abstract

Civil engineers often don't become managers because they don't understand what a manager does or, if they do, are uncomfortable with their perception. Both managers and engineers are creative, able to problem solve, analytical, and apply the scientific method of thinking (i.e., to test alternatives). Good management and good engineering are similar. Good managers will increasingly come from the civil engineering profession.
