Abstract: Professional societies recognize the need for the continuous dialogue between practitioners and educators to assure graduates are able to fulfill organizational goals and objectives when selected for employment. Techniques for accomplishing a consistent interchange of views that are beneficial to students and result in a strengthening of the civil engineering education program is one of the more important goals of the strategic plan of the Society. By studying the methods used by other professional organizations in their relation with academia, the Engineering Management Division will be able to lay the foundations for a long‐range program of closer ties with the colleges and universities that are producing the future generation of civil engineers.
