Twenty-First-Century Engineering Projects—More than Bricks, Mortar, and Money

Abstract

How will postmodern engineers deal with the increasingly complex social issues facing nearly every new engineering project and decision? A philosophy is outlined that seeks to synthesize these disparate interests. It is contended that the integral philosophy and what is called the spiral of development offer approaches that can include all parties, reduce conflict, and help create consensus. The philosophy transcends and includes issues bearing on the environment, preservation, and growth and includes the human being in a profound new way.
