Abstract: Data showing salary trends for civil engineers working for various types of employers are surveyed. Attention is then given to the ways in which an individual engineer can influence his or her compensation. The effects on compensation of educational level, breadth of experience, and supervisory responsibilities are explored. The importance of living in an area that is undergoing economic expansion is stressed.
