Abstract: To assess the prospects for an adequate supply of civil engineers in the future, a model developed by Michael E. Porter to analyze the strength of competitive forces within an industry is applied. In accordance with this model, attention is given to rivalries, the threat of new entrants, the bargaining power of both buyers and suppliers, and the threat of substitute products or services. Recommendations are made for the benefit of firms concerned about staffing levels.
