Abstract: ACI 318–99 and ACI 318M–99 give two versions of an expression for the shear strength of reinforced concrete flexural members with only longitudinal reinforcement. One of these versions is for use with U.S. customary units; the other is for use with S.I. units. Yet the two expressions do not give the same strengths. The magnitude of the difference is explored herein for some example concrete strengths.
