Field-Level Management's Perspective of Design/Build

Abstract

A study of the design/build and non-design/build project delivery experiences of one construction company was conducted to measure the advantages and disadvantages of both delivery methods. How the design/build project delivery method affected contractor employee satisfaction was investigated. The focus of the study was field-level discernment rather than overall corporate management perceptions. An employee survey targeted the contractor's field-level management and consisted of seven open-ended questions. The respondents were consistently optimistic about design/build practices within the company. This study provides contractors with valuable knowledge of the advantages and disadvantages of design/build and non-design/build project delivery methods.
