| description abstract | Best management practices (BMPs) are designs and practices used to mitigate the environmental impacts of nonpoint source pollution, a leading cause of receiving water quality degradation in the United States. Proper selection and design of a BMP should consider its performance throughout its anticipated life. The magnitude of one particular life cycle variable, representing the likelihood of installation of a required storm water detention facility, was analyzed based on data from 716 privately developed sites in a county in South Carolina.
