Abstract: A total of 454 and 2234 new ice gouges were recorded in 1984 and 1985 respectively in a 13.5 sq mi (35.0 sq km) area of the Beaufort Seabed. The new ice gouge data were analyzed statistically using the SAS software and the VAX/DEC 1180 computer. The average number of new single and multiyear gouges dramatically increased between 1983-1984 and 1984-1985. The new ice gouge data provides scientists and engineers with information for determining the relationship between gouge depths and number of new gouges.
