Energy Budgets for Three Small Plots—Substantiation of Priestley and Taylor's Large-Scale Evaporation Parameter

Abstract: Eleven days of energy balance data from three unsaturated land surfaces were collected in the White Mountains of Arizona. These data indicate the variability in α for unsaturated conditions, and seem to verify that a constant value of 1.26 exists for saturated (LE/R ? 1) conditions. The ?index of aridity? (α/1.26), though not entirely logical for small-scale use, also seems to substantiate the large-scale parameter.
