    Fog Effects Resulting from Power Plant Cooling Lakes

    Abstract: A study was made of the potential effects of the waste heat discharge from cooling lakes associated with large power plants in the Midwest upon the distribution of fog, icing and clouds in their vicinity. Emphasis was placed upon the evaluation of fog effects, since this appears to be the major detrimental effect that would be introduced into the atmosphere. Results indicated potential for both enhancement and initiation of fog by cooling lakes, especially in winter, but initiation appears to be the more frequent occurrence.
