Abstract: A method of measuring very low updraft velocities (<1 m sec?1) in vertical wind tunnels is presented. It consists of observing the collision and coalescence of two equal radii droplets. The fall velocity of the resultant droplet is shown to be uniquely related to the updraft velocity. The apparatus used to implement the method is described.
