| description abstract | From the architectural point of view, the vertical variation of strong gusts over cities is very important. From observational data taken at five levels (26, 67, 107, 173 and 253 m) instrumented at the Tokyo Tower, the structure of strong gusts over the city of Tokyo is analyzed. It is clearly shown that the peak of gusts at the 67-m level is usually larger than that at the 107-m level. The highest single observation shows a hurricane wind at a height of 253 m as high as 52.1 m sec?1 from the south during the passage of a typhoon on 25 September 1966. | |
