Abstract: The paper deals with certain aspects of energetics and dynamics of quasi-steady convective storms in shear. The role of perturbation pressure forces in such storms is discussed and relations between ambient wind shear, buoyancy, and storm speed are derived for two- and three-dimensional cases. After a short discussion of the applicability of the theory to real atmospheric conditions, the theoretical results are applied to two cases of storms in northeastern Colorado.
