Abstract: The winds and pressures over the sea in the New England hurricane of September 1938 are reconstructed, making the meteorological ingredients available for a meteorological-oceanographic investigation of the record tide produced by this storm on the southern New England coast. The methods of analysis of the meteorological data are applicable to other hurricanes.
