    Abstract: For large wind speed (in practice >15 m s?1) observations of the surface stress by means of the inertial dissipation technique are so close to the surface that effects of growing ocean waves on the turbulent kinetic energy budget should be taken into account. This may give rise to an increase in the surface stress of 20%.
