Abstract: Lead and lag correlation coefficients are obtained between sea surface temperature and rainfall in the B-scale region during GATE. Significant negative correlation is found for 1-day lag and positive correlation for 1-day lead of sea surface temperature, implying negative feedback with a response delay of about 1 day. Mechanisms that may contribute to the correlations are discussed.
