Abstract: An electrical readout, aneroid barometer is described, suitable for meteorological use, which operates in a constant temperature (40°C) enclosure to eliminate corrections to calibration coefficients (α0, ??0) for variations in ambient temperature. The barometer has an analogue output of ±4 V over the range 850 to 1050 rob. Test over three years on 15 units have identified sources of measurement noise, drift and oven failure such that the average unit experiences rms noise ≈0.06 mb, and has a mean absolute drift per year of 0.2 mb. These figures are based on daily calibration and determine a monthly drift correction δm to the calibration equation p=α0+?0 V?δm, p being pressure in mb and V output in millivolts; δm is generally known to ±0.06 mb.
