Abstract: Freezing nuclei were used as tracers in experiments to determine whether ice particles are accreted by rime during dry growth. Experiments were conducted in a wind tunnel and in natural clouds at a mountaintop observatory. The results in both cases indicated that a few percent of the ice particles in the cloud were accreted by the rime.
