Abstract: The outer cloudband structure of a tropical cyclone is kinematically treated as the manifestation of a forced set of waves stationary with respect to the cyclone. When the cyclone wind field is modeled as a Rankine vortex and the cloudbands are treated as constant phase surfaces they are found to have qualitative similarities to those observed in actual cyclones.
