    Environmental Assessment of a Site for Civil Construction

    Abstract: The current environmental state of the area proposed for building a hotel complex is described. The natural and anthropogenic factors that are of significance for designing are considered. A set of 10 maps for the territory of the proposed development illustrate the spatial spreading and significance of each factor for building. The most important factors determining the territory suitable for the development are as follows: (1) winter wind regime; (2) insolation; and (3) vegetation state. Calculations are carried out and the territory zoning is performed for the mean winter wind velocity. Suitability of the territory is assessed considering the comfort of microclimatic conditions and the sites are recommended that are most appropriate for the hotel complex building. The studies of this kind carried out at the stage of the preproject substantiation result in reducing environmental losses and decreasing costs to implement a project. The procedure under consideration is applicable for estimating the suitability of territories for civil engineering within areas of similar natural conditions.
