| description abstract | Results are presented from an investigation on stiffening wideflange steel beams for torsional loading. Four types of stiffeners, involving either plate elements or small sections of channels, were used for pin ended, fix ended and cantilevered beams subject to either concentrated or distributed torques. Both the quantity and the location of the stiffeners were varied. A finite element analysis was used to develop design recommendations on the type of stiffener, the size, and the placement. | |
