Abstract: An approach to the estimation of cladding loads in hurricane-prone regions is presented which is both statistically rigorous and convenient for practical application. A computer program is described for carrying out such estimates from data pertaining to wind speeds in hurricanes, blowing from each of the 16 compass directions, and the aerodynamic coefficients corresponding to each of these directions. Stored in the program is information on hurricane wind speeds used in the development of the American National Standard A58.1-1982 wind map. The input to the program consists of the geographical location of the building, its distance from the coastline, the building height, the terrain roughness, and the aerodynamic coefficients measured in the wind tunnel. The program is available on tape from the National Technical Information Service.
