| description abstract | This paper discusses a method of the coring, storing, sample preparation, laboratory testing of oil sand, and field load testing of piles bearing on the oil sand. Laboratory strength and compressibility test results on undisturbed and gas expanded oil sand samples are also presented. Details of field pile load tests are described and end‐bearing pile capacities calculated on the basis of laboratory determined soil parameters, and field‐measured standard penetration blow counts are then compared with values interpreted from pile load tests. Field load tests and laboratory consolidation data indicate that oil sand behaves as a dense material with low compressibility. | |
