Abstract: A layer of visco-elastic material bonded between surfaces of a vibrating structure and a constraining layer produces appreciable damping of vibration. Application of the technique to textile spindles effectively reduces vibration transmitted to machine frames. When applied to circular saws the techniques is effective only when the constrained layer is subjected to shear stress.
