description abstractA variational averaging technique is applied to nonlinear systems with narrow band inputs. The technique requires that a form for the approximate solution be obtained by some means. The case of narrow band inputs places unique requirements on the selection of certain parameters in the approximate form. A conceptual development of the important factors is presented and applied to several specific examples. Results show that the technique is capable of producing good approximations and specific methodology is suggested for several cases.
