| description abstract | The inverse problem of determining damping from frequency response is formulated as an optimization problem. Response data are sequentially processed by an algorithm which refines the estimate of damping at each frequency point. The method is illustrated by numerical examples involving viscous damping. Other forms of damping can be considered without altering the procedure discussed here. | |
