Abstract: Wear tests have been carried out under works operational conditions to see how some of the currently available wear-resistant materials behave when subjected to sliding wear by coke and sliding and medium impact wear by blast furnace sinter. Results are compared with En8 (equivalent to SAE 1038), one of the commonly used wear plate materials, to estimate what savings, if any, would be achieved in practice. It is shown that by the use of better wear-resistant materials plant maintenance costs can be considerably reduced. In particular shutdown times can be reduced and output capacity increased.
