Abstract: A general method is presented for the complete balancing of a harmonic unbalance of any machine, including inertia forces, moments of the inertia forces, and inertia torques, utilizing six weights on three shafts in the machine parallel to the coordinate axes and rotating at the speed of the harmonic. For those cases where a full set of three shafts is not available, a method for optimizing unbalance is also presented, and illustrated by an example. In such cases the criterion for “best balance” must be carefully selected. This should be done to minimize some response to the unbalance.
