    Abstract: Equations are developed to calculate speed and pressure transients of a hydraulic turbine during a load change. Water hammer, governor time, dashpot time, temporary speed droop, and promptness of governor response are taken into account. An example illustrates the application of equations to a step-by-step calculation.
