Abstract: The “break spinning” process has recently been introduced to improve spinning efficiency in the textile industry. In one version, fiber elements are drawn onto the inner rim of a rapidly rotating drum from which they are pulled away, as yarn, by means of a thread inserted along the axis. The quality of the yarn produced is considered to be sensitive to the air flow in the drum. The object of this work is to apply simple rotating flow theory, to obtain the angular velocity distribution inside the drum.
